1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Armourband® is a stress absorbing overbanding system for sealing reflective cracks in asphalt and concrete pavements. In service the system offers high tensile strength without bleeding or deformation under vehicle movements.
2. PRODUCT:
Armourband® is a polymer modified bituminous compound containing fibre reinforcement, aggregates and adhesion agents which resists deformation and has the strength and flexibility to limit the reoccurrence of cracking.
3. PHYSICAL PROPERTIES:
Minimum Application Temperature: | +5°c
Product Pouring Temperature: | 170 ± 10°c
Maximum Safe Heating Temperature: | 190°c
Penetration Value | EN13880-3 | 20 ± 10 dmm |
Flow Resistance | EN13880-5 | < 5mm |
Softening Point | EN1427 | 100 ± 15°c |
Flash Point | COC °c | > 250°c |
Specific Gravity | EN13880-1 | 1.5 ± 0.05 |
4. CHEMICAL RESISTANCE:
Bituminous products soften in contact with petroleum solvent and mineral oils. The product has good resistance to dilute acids and alkalis.
COMPOSITION: A bitumen / resin blend containing SBS Polymer – Rubber Chips –
Fibre Reinforcement – Aggregate – Extender & Adhesion Agent.
STORAGE: Store in a cool dry place preferably under cover and away from direct sunlight.
PACKAGING: Silicone or Poly-silicone lined sacks – 20 / 25kgs Net.
5. SAFE HANDLING PRECAUTIONS:
* Do not exceed the maximum safe heating temperature.
* Do not allow the hot material to come into contact with water as the product will react violently.
* Always wear the recommended protective clothing – see below.
6. FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARDS:
FLAMMABILITY LIMITS
Upper – Not applicable.
Lower – Not applicable.
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA
Small Fire – Foam / Water Fog.
Large Fire – Foam / Dry Powder / CO² / Sand / Earth.
SUPPLY CLASSIFICATION
Not dangerous for supply.
7. ACUTE HEALTH HAZARDS & ADVICE:
Armourband® presents no acute health hazard at ambient temperature. However, as these materials are normally handled at elevated temperatures when their physical state changes to a liquid, the bitumens present in these products give of fumes which are undesirable to inhale as very small quantities of HYDROGEN SULPHIDE may be present in the bitumen.
RECOMMENDED PROTECTIVE CLOTHING:
Overalls, Goggles / Visor and Closed Safety Boots when handling hot product.
INHALATION:
Inhalation of the vapours should be avoided.
FIRST AID:
Remove the affected person to fresh aid. If breathing has stopped administer artificial respiration. Give cardiac massage if necessary. If the person is breathing but unconscious place in the recovery position. Obtain medical assistance immediately.
SKIN CONTACT:
Bituminous products present no acute health hazards to the skin other than burning when handling at elevated temperatures.
FIRST AID:
Flush the contaminated skin with cold water. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE BITUMEN. Cover the burn with a sterile dressing. Do not apply any medication to the affected part. Obtain medical attention immediately.
EYE CONTACT:
Contact with fumes may cause irritation and redness.
FIRST AID:
Irrigate with copious amounts of water – 10 / 20 minutes and seek medical advice immediately.
PRECAUTIONS:
Avoid contact with the skin by use of suitable protective clothing.
TRANSPORTATION:
Not classified as dangerous for transportation.
